TX-NR808 owner's thread (for interesting finds, solutions, tips & tricks)
Questions for Onkyo Support:
Are there any hidden/secret features, info or menus for this device?
On some of the other models (SR series, for instance) you can access
undocumented features using button/key combinations on the receiver
and/or the remote. Certainly, these exist for the TX-NR808 but maybe no
one thought of asking about this (yet)?
==========
Can Telnet be enabled on this?
I would like to Telnet into the device to see if there are any
configuration options for the device and for the web interface
(additional pages) that can be enabled. I have read that it's possible
to enable Telnet on a device that doesn't normally give access to it by
using the ping command to send a command string into the device.
==========
Ideas for expanding the Web Setup Menu:
a) add web access to the favorites for all 7 internet radio services
b) add configuration options for the receiver
c) provide file system access to any USB drive or iPod plugged into
the receiver (assign drive letter to the drive)
d) provide the ability to enable Telnet
e) basically, anything that can be done with the receiver buttons
and remote keys should be able to be accessed through the web
==========
Finally, in advance, a substantial return contribution to the
community since I've not seen these reported anywhere...these
could be a good find for some who, like me want to be able to
exploit the use of their receiver to its maximum:

The info above are free solutions.
There may be other solutions out there involving a pay-for application.
One of which is called Vera, the Lite version of which goes for $199.

Hi ssybesma,
As far as I know there are no hidden/secrete features on this model at least that product support is aware of.
Thank you for the information it will be forwarded to the proper department for review.

Mediafly ended 3/31/12
I noticed Mediafly ended for home users on 3/31/12, so I have an orphaned service in my TX-NR808 already.
I notice you are including Last.FM on your newer receivers. Can you add it to the TX-NR808 on the next firmware update?
Thanks!

hidden webpage found on WEB Setup Menu
I recently came upon someone who used SkipFish to discover a hidden webpage on your A/V receivers, and the TX-NR808 also has it:
http colon slash slash <IP_address_of_receiver>/config.cgi
It's purpose is for "Internet Radio Advanced Setting"
How would I go about making use of that?
Thanks!

Hi ssybesma,
Unfortunately I know of no such command so I can not advise on how to use them?

I understand you may not know and that's totally OK. I'm not asking the standard support questions.
I have already shared everything I know and have discovered, and will continue to do that for the purpose of building knowledge of the TX-NR808.
If you don't mind, can you ask a level 2 tech what config.cgi is supposed to be for?
My biggest hope would be just to know what the complete contents are of the directory that file is found in.
Yes, I want to explore what things can or cannot be changed and accessed once I have that knowledge in hand.
I also want to know how I can enable Telnet so I can Telnet into the receiver.
It seems like I would need a bootable USB stick to do that (I'm guessing).
Any technical info that is aside from the normal stuff is GREATLY appreciated.
I am an Onkyo customer and feel this is a reasonable request and not too much to ask for.
Thanks again for your help!!!
Steve
