TX-SR309 Dolby Digital 5.1 Troubleshooting
Hi All,
I just purchased the Onkyo TX-SR309 (refurbished) and am having issues using the Digital Dolby 5.1 audio. I have a Roku LT streaming Netflix. The TV is an LG 42LH30. The speakers are a 5.1 channel Yamaha setup.
If I switch the Netflix movie to use 5.1 I get no sound. I do get sound (though not 5.1) if I disable 5.1 through Netflix. Here is the setup:
TV <==> HDMI Out <==> Receiver
TV <==> Digital Optical In 2 (TV/CD) <==> Receiver
Roku <==> HDMI1 <==> Receiver
In the setup menu on the receiver I have the following settings:
1.) HDMI Input BD/DVD set to HDMI1
3.) Digital Audio BD/DVD set to OPTICAL 2
8.) Audio Selector Audio Selector (with Fixed Mode off). I have tried a few different settings here.
10.) HDMI Setup everything is turned to off except LipSync
The TV speakers are turned off.
The sound mode is set to Direct, though I have tried a few other settings.
Any ideas? The fact that it's a refurb makes me worry that I got a defective unit. Let me know if you need any more details to help troubleshoot.
Thanks.

Does anyone have any insight? Possibly a defective unit? Should I just return it?

Re: TX-SR309 Dolby Digital 5.1 Troubleshooting
You stated you are using both HDMI and digital optical cable from the Roku into the receiver and have NO audio. Under the AUDIO SELECTOR submenu- what is currently selected- HDMI or OPTICAL? When using the Roku/ Netflix and streaming onto the receiver; have you pressed the DISPLAY button to indicate the current audio format/ listening mode in use on the receiver as well? It would possibly be more effective to contact our Product Support Dept. for further assistance with this specific issue via our phone number and hours of operation below. We would like to speak with you and work to troubleshoot and resolve your issue, with you having access to your unit, as prompt as possible. Please contact our Product Support Dept for further assistance with this specific issue via our phone number and hours of operation (Monday- Sunday 24 hours a day: (800) 229-1687; option #3 PRODUCT SUPPORT).
