Discontinuation of TX NR616
I find this hard to believe but I was told by a sales person that Onkyo "discontinued" the TX NR616 about two days ago. Is there any truth to this and, if so, can someone please explain.

The 609 perhaps is what your sales person might have referred to. Yours is still listed for sale about everywhere and is also on the Onkyo site as well.
The Moderator will most likely confirm this sometime tomorrow.

Thanks for your response. I don't want to cause the supplier any issues so I won't mention the name of the company. Suffice it to say that the company is large and has been around from the beginning. I was very specific in my questions about the 616 because their website shows the item as "no longer available." I was told that the 616 was discontinued by Onkyo two days ago and that it is no longer available from the supplier because they have sold all of their remaining inventory. Like I said, I find it hard to believe but I guess time will tell.

Discontinuation
Without prejudice
If it has been Discontinued, I bet that is because they CAN NOT fix the NR616, and don't want to do a recall, and have wrote it off, leaving us holding the can and stuck with a Pile of!.

NOTE: There is NO discontiunation of the TX-NR 616; as many authorized retailers are simply low or out-of-inventory of this receiver. I have inquired with various sales departments and authorized retailers who have reported they are low or out-of-stck due to the holiday season. They also report that based on their customer feedback; many owners are reported positive feedback after the implementation of the latest firmware revision (as we have previously reported because our feedback derives from THEIR analysis). Many customers still reporting any issue are actually found NOT to have properly update their receiver upon evaluation at our NJ facility. I would contact this supplier for an expected date of inventory replenishment.

I will be replenishing the low inventory tomorrow as I send my new (and properly updated) receiver back due to a continuation of the remote control problem. Hopefully an additional $150 sent to purchase a Yahama V673 will buy me some peace. I did give Onkyo the first chance, but I'm too old for this. Maybe a younger person can deal better with my class B recycle.

What is the current firmware version of your receiver? As the latest and previous F/W update published in both July and October has resolved these issues? If you are not running the latest firmware version (1141-0108-0400); you should update the unit via USB flash drive. If you are still experiencing the same issue , Please contact our Product Support Dept for further assistance with this specific issue via our phone number and hours of operation (Monday- Sunday 24 hours a day: (800) 229-1687; option #3 PRODUCT SUPPORT). We would like to speak with you and work to troubleshoot and resolve your issue as prompt as possible.
Thank You;

That is the firmware version I installed via USB. The installation was successful according to the front panel. I still experienced the problem afterwards and decided that enough is enough. I can easily return the unit and based upon all the problems I've read about here and other places, I'm ready to start over. I am truly sorry about this for both of us.

I can arrange to have your unit evaluated by our Engineering department to confirm this issue. If you state you are having an issue that needs further servicing, we would like to resolve this.
