UBT-1 Bluetooth - Successfully paired but no sound? Empty UBT-1 Bluetooth - Successfully paired but no sound?

Post  sacdiggler Wed Nov 21, 2012 10:53 am

I've seen some comments about this on Amazon and some other random message boards, but I figured I'd post here and see if someone is having this issue, or to see if a Moderator can help me.

I successfully updated my TX-NR515 to have the latest & greatest firmware update. I plugged in the UBT-1 bluetooth adapter and it successfully pairs with my smart phone (Motorola Droid Razr in case that helps). However, and this is the problem I'm seeing elsewhere but with no solutions, there is no sound output through my Onkyo receiver or the speakers.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

HI Sacdiggler,

Just my two cents. I have a TX-NR717. and the UBT-1 blue-tooth adapter. It works terrific!! Can stream my music from my tablet right to the 717. Works and all speakers are working and sounding great!!

This has helped me when nothing else did:

Try to unplug the receiver and leave it unplugged for five minutes from power. Plug back in and give it a minute or two and turn the receiver back on. This is considered a "soft boot"
Then re-power up, start it up again and see what happens.

I have a TX-NR717 and after I updated my firmware I was having issues. Unplugged the unit from the power supply, left out exactly 5 mins., plugged back in, waited a min. turned receiver back on and BOOM! It has worked without a problem for the past two weeks.
This is a practice I will follow whenever I do a firmware update.

You will NOT lose any of your settings doing this "soft boot"

btw, network standby is great if you want to be able to turn on your unit from the remote Onkyo App. I love it!

I suggested this to a user last evening on these forums that was having a problem with his TX-NR414 and it worked.. look for the topic it should be pretty close up top.

Good luck. Let us know how you make out. Ciao, FlyByNgt 11-28-12

Let me know if this fixes your problem. I was thinking of buying that bluetooth adaptor as I have a clunky motorola bluetooth adaptor I have been using for many years.

UBT-1 Bluetooth - Successfully paired but no sound? Empty Re: UBT-1 Bluetooth - Successfully paired but no sound?

Okay, I tried the 'soft boot' like 'FlyByNgt' had recommended, to no avail. (Thank you for the help, btw).

I tried my wife's phone with the UBT-1 to see if hers might work by some chance. Pandora does not stream onto the receiver; however, mp3s that she has stored on her phone will play over the speakers. She has an HTC Thunderbolt.

So I tried with my phone again (Motorola Razr) and no sound was played on the speakers - I tried both Pandora Radio and stored mp3s.

It's maddening I tell you. I keep thinking it's a volume issue or an audio output issue, because the receiver says it's paired to my phone.

If anyone can think of any other troubleshooting ideas, I'm all ears. Thank you!

Sacdiggler, sorry that did not help. It would be good for you to do after any firmware updates. I know I will.

I am interested to see what others have to say about this issue. My Xoom pairs great, I am able to send any of my music directly to the TX-NR717 and it works wonderful. I like the UBT-1 very much. Hope you get a answer to resolve this. Ciao, FlyByNgt 11-30-12

FlyByNgt,

Have you tried streaming Pandora through your Xoom onto the UBT-1? Does that work? I had talked with product support on the phone last weekend (they didn't get the problem solved at the time either) and they told me that you cannot stream a radio station and then send that stream to your receiver via Bluetooth, they said that my cell phone would be incapable of doing that. Just curious if that's true or if they were blowing smoke.

Thanks!

Hi Sacdiggler,

I have not tried streaming Pandora through my Xoom. I really do not think that you would be able to stream a music or radio station. What I would do is.. get your list of songs you want from Pandora. Download to your device in a Pandora playlist and then you can stream those songs to the Onkyo.

Anyway, why would you want to do that? You can just download the mobile App and you can control the Onkyo while on your network. You can go right into the NET, Tuner, and control all from the App like you were sitting in front of the receiver. All the lists and songs show up. It is GREAT! One thing, remember, if you want to be able to turn on the receiver from your mobile device if it is off.. you should set the "Network Standby" to ON. Give it a try.. you will like it. Very Happy

Let us know if it helps for what you want to do.

Unfortunately I do not have internet/ wifi at my house, so the Onkyo app is pretty useless for me.

Sacdiggler,

I just was streaming Pandora from my Xoom to the Onkyo TX-NR717 through the UBT-1 Onkyo Bluetooth adapter. It works great!! Maybe the cell cannot do it. I use my tablet.

I said let me see... My Xoom paired up with the UBT-1. I then turned the receiver on via the remote app and put it in USB-front (where my UBT is). Opened Pandora and at 1st no sound??

I went into my Xoom and looked under the bluetooth settings. There was a setting for Media audio with a check box that was unchecked for the UBT device. As soon as I checked the box BOOM!!!!!! MUSIC! I have been streaming 4 different Stations so far, Really cool. Cool

Thank you Sacdiggler for peaking my interest to try this. It does work from my Xoom. It is possible from the tablet.

Let me know if you need any clairfication or help. Best of luck.

I'm pretty sure I have the Media Audio box checked. That's good to know that Pandora can be streamed from a phone/ table to the UBT via Bluetooth. I guess I'll have to keep looking around on settings within my phone and on the Receiver. I never thought it'd be this difficult.

Just for clarification's sake, there's no reason for me to need Wifi to use this UBT-1, right? From everything I've read about this device, all you need is something that transmits via Bluetooth, such as a cell phone, plug in the UBT to the USB port and you're good to go. I'd hate to call product support again just to tell me that's my problem.

Thanks again for the help.

btw, Make sure the volume slider on the bottom of your Pandora is set to full volume. You adjust with your App or the Onkyo unit. When it was low or off... NO SOUND! Try that buddy.

See, now you're just rubbing it in.....

It'd sure be nice if Onkyo's Product Support team chimed in with any help or troubleshooting tips; I've read about this issue with other users, certainly they've heard of SOMETHING to try!

Dude, not at all. I am just so happy to have this unit all going. I had issues at first with my new receiver and have just been so very busy, etc., to even try too much on the TX-NR717. I fiqured when it was cold and crappy out over the winter I could "play" more with the unit. PLEASE, I did not mean it to come across that way. I am sorry if it did. Wink

As to your questions about the Wi-Fi and the UBT Bluetooth adapter. I know you need to have Wi-Fi and be on the same network as your Onkyo Unit to be able to control through the App. I do not know of any other restrictions that I have come across so far. I would check with Onkyo's staff on that one.

Now I think I will go listen to some more music!! lol! just kidding. I really wish you the best.

Best of luck. Please let us know how you make out. Ciao, FlyByNgt 11-30-12

Okay, so I think the issue is my phone, I'm convinced of this.

I was toying with my wife's phone and I got some mp3s to play over the speakers. And then I tried to see if Pandora would work. And it did!

So the issue seems to be my phone. Not sure if the Droid Razr will even output audio over the bluetooth. It says it's successfully paired with the UBT-1, however, there's just no sound. I'm not sure if it's my version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the phone or what, but I'll keep toying with it now that I know all the Onkyo products work. And they sound great!

Thanks for the help, FlyByNgt.

Hi Sacdiggler,

Glad you got it to work. I can tell you that I was running ICS when I first started using the UBT. My Xoom updated to Android 4.1 the last two weeks. It has worked fine with both OS on the Xoom.

That you are saying it is paired, but no sound. I found that I have to make sure the sound on my device(s) are fully at max levels. (check you settings for sound in your device's settings. My Xoom has two or three sliders. 1 for overall volume level, another for output level <--look for that one and see if it's up), Without I had NO SOUND also. When I was tinkering around I put the sound on my Xoom all the way up, and even the volume slider in Pandora. Then I was ale to hear the sound. You adjust your sound levels via the Onkyo. Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.

Glad to hear you are making progress. No thanks needed. Helping a fellow forum member.
