I purchased and received a TX-NR616 receiver from Amazon.com last week. Having seen online there were problems with HDMI pass through, I downloaded and installed the latest firmware before setting up the receiver. I made sure to follow the instructions and the receiver had no components connected except a television during the install. The firmware update was completed on the receiver “right out of the box”. The receiver was unplugged after the firmware update completed and sat unpowered for two days.

I then hooked up my HTPC to the PC HDMI input, a brand new PS3 slim to BD/DVD, and my Xbox 360 to the GAME HDMI input. My TV is (Panasonic TC-P50G20) is connected via HDMI to the main HDMI monitor connection on the receiver. I set the HDMI passive input to PC and the HTPC signal passed through as expected when the receiver was put in standby mode.

Next I enabled RIHD in order to control the PS3 without a separate adapter. This also worked as expected once I entered a Sony Blu-Ray code into the Onkyo remote. Unfortunately, once I enabled RIHD, the pass through options became greyed out and set to AUTO. This caused my HTPC HDMI signal to fail.

It failed in the following way. If the receiver is turned on, the signal from the PC HDMI is displayed correctly when PC is selected as the input. If I turn off the receiver (standby), the picture will go to black for one to two seconds. The picture for the PC port will then return. However, after approximately 10 seconds the signal is completely lost. If I power the receiver back up using the remote or button the picture for the port returns.

Summary
TV: Panasonic TC-P50G20 connected to monitor out HDMI
PS3: connected to BD/DVD HDMI
HTPC using AMD Radeon HD 5670: connected to PC HDMI
Xbox 360: connected to GAME HDMI
HTPC pass through in standby only works if receiver has RIHD turned off. With RIHD enabled, the HTPC will only stay up for approximately 10 seconds if the receiver is placed in standby.
