Satellite & PS3 HDMI in - Component Out
I just got the TX-NR616 and I am trying to connect everything together. My TV will only accept Component Video but I want to use HDMI to connect my DirecTV and PS3. So I have used HDMI cables to connect the PS3 and DirecTV to the TX-NR616 receiver and have the Component Out connected to the TV but I there is no picture. I was able to get a picture if I connect my home computer display up to the TX-NR616 using the HDMI monitor out though. Is there a way to accomplish this, I guess it needs to down convert the HDMI inputs to the Component output but not sure on how to set that up.

I will let one of the experts confirm here, but I'm not sure if this is possible, especially with HDMI that has copy-protection, and that would require stripping the signal of said copy protection, which I don't think they are allowed to do.
In any case, I think this receiver is intended to output via HDMI, and only offers pass-through for other outputs. I think it can convert from analog TO HDMI, but I don't think it is equipped to convert digital into analog (as far as video).
There are devices out there that will convert HDMI to component, though they can be pricey, and I'm not sure how well they would handle copy protected material, which wants a connection all the way from source to display. Cable boxes often incorporate copy protection, as do newer Blu-rays.
I don't think Onkyo would attempt to convert HDMI to analog because first, there is very little demand for that - any TV from the past 7 or 8 years at least should have an HDMI input. Second, if it only worked for non-copyrighted material, it would be very limited, and create confusion with consumers that don't fully educate themselves about this stuff.

Called Onkyo Support and they verified that you cannot plug in HDMI and output to Component Video.
