TX-NR616 passthrough

Hello all, I'm new to the forum, so I hope this topic hasn't been asked to death.
I purchased the 616 a couple of weeks ago. So far so good. I am having one problem though, I can't get the audio to work during standby mode. I get the video no problem, but no sound to go along with it. Sometimes, I just want to watch tv without having to use the receiver for sound. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried a few of the suggestions on this forum, but no luck so far.
My tv is an older LG plasma, 42".
Could someone point me in the right direction.
