TX-NR515 wifi adapter

Post  dedpihto on Mon Sep 24, 2012 3:29 pm

Receiver Model: TX-NR515
Should WiFi (USB) adapter be only by ONKYO or any generic one would work too?

Thank you.

Only the UWF-1 is fully compatible and supported with the Onkyo network receivers.

There are other options:

TP-Link TL-WN721N 150Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter
TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter
TP-Link TL-WN822N 300 Mbps High Gain Wireless N USB Adapter

Each has good reviews, and seem to be better than the UWF-1 in price and performance

As previous stated; the UWF-1 is the only supported WiFi USB LAN adapter for the 2011 to current netowrk-ready receivers.

An alternative is to connect a wifi client to your ethernet port.
See my other post today.

wifi on ethernet port

Post  kooss on Fri Dec 14, 2012 12:42 pm

Hi FlyByNgt,

I wanted to keep the front usb free for my ipod and usb-sticks and didn't want to use the UWF-1 for that reason.
So I bought a TP-Link wifi nano router type TL-WR702N.
It is widely available, see ebay for example.
US price around $20-25.
My price was €20 in the Netherlands.

It is a very small unit with only one RJ45 port , but that is all you need for the purpose.
First connect the unit to the pc and install as 'client' (follow the manual, i prefer a fixed ip ,so you can always access it easily).
Then connect it to your Onkyo (TX-8050 in my case ) at the ethernet port (+mains adapter).
Run the onkyo network setup. (again I prefer a fixed ip instead of dhcp).

If all set right you will have full wifi access.
I use Vtuner and DLNA server without any problem and I can access the Onkyo via HTTP at the given ip address.
Just the ipone app doesnt always work correctly, but UWF-1 users also have problems with the app, so that seems not to be due to this solution.

I am very pleased with it. The TP client is hidden behind the receiver, and the usb port is free for use.
Price also makes a difference ($20 instead of $80).

Other routers with client option will probably also do the job.
I cannot garantee that it works on every network Onkyo, but as they all use the uwf-1 I suppose it should work.

Hope this helps.
