609 or 709
I consider either Onkyo receiver NR609 or NR709. NR609 has output of 100W, and 709NR 110W, that is the major difference as I can see. Does 10W more power make big difference? I would like to hear from your experience. Thanx.

Re: 609 or 709
Another difference between the two models are the following:
- The TX-NR 709 also includes a PHONO RCA input terminal, unlike the TX-NR 609 for connecting a capable phonograph onto this receiver.
- The TX-NR 709 also provides PRE-OUT channels to connect external devices such as wireless headphones/ speakers, etc. onto- unlike the TX-NR 609 which doesn't include this feature.
- The TX-NR 709 also provides ANALOG multi-channel terminals, unlike the TX-NR 609 unit. It also provides more HDMI INPUT terminals as well.
- Lastly- the TX-NR 709 provides dual HDMI OUTPUTS to provide video broadcasting to two devices (TV/Monitor, Projector, etc.).
Those are some of the differences between the two units. Be careful with going with an older model Onkyo - issues with HDMI card failures - Reviews on Amazon tell the story and on this forum
I have had a couple of issues with my TX-NR709 receiver since I purchased it in August of 2011. My HDMI Card failed, which resulted in no receiver for approximately a month. My rear left surround speaker port no longer works. Random picture loss when turning unit on - which I have to turn it back off to solve. Hopefully that is all. My receiver is only 13 months old so be careful and consider an extended warranty from Squaretrade or Onkyo if they offer it.

Have you contacted Product Support regarding this issue and/or have your unit serviced at an authorized service center? As the manufacturer's warranty covers 2 years from the date of purchase- you can have the unit serviced for this unforeseen issue.
