5.1 surround from 7.2 receiver Empty 5.1 surround from 7.2 receiver

Post  bcambis@earthlink.net Sun Sep 23, 2012 7:01 pm

My movie room is setup for 5.1 surround sound with an older receiver that supports THX but not HDMI inputs. I would like to upgrade my receiver but really don't have the the configuration for setting up 7 channels. I also want to keep the component video to my projector because it would be extremely difficult to change the wiring for my projector. Can I use the TX-NR709 in a 5.1 configuration or would there be sound lost by not using all channels?

Yes you can configure the TX-NR 709 to operate as a 5.1 surround system by changing a speaker configuration setting on the SETUP menu of the receiver. Go into the SETUP menu of the receiver and scroll down to SPEAKER SETUP and press the ENTER button. Now scroll down to SPEAKER CONFIG submenu setting and press ENTER again. Now scroll down and SURR BACK and press the LEFT <- arrow button to toggle to the option "NONE". Review that FRONT HIGH and FRONT WIDE speaker channels are also set to NONE as well before exiting the SETUP menu. When confirmed; press the SETUP button to fully exit the menu. Now you have configured the receiver for 5.1 surround audio; as you can now go to LEVEL CALIBRATION and listen for the test-tones for all connected speakers as well.
